El equipo del Observatorio de Interferometría Láser de Ondas Gravitacionales (LIGO, por sus siglas en inglés) confirmó el jueves  la detección de las ondas gravitacionales , cuya existencia había vaticinado Albert Einstein hace 100 años en su  Teoría de la Relatividad General . Las ondas gravitacionales son una suerte de curvaturas en el tejido espacio-tiempo que se forman como consecuencia de enormes fenómenos cósmicos, como la colisión de dos agujeros negros supermasivos. Ya empiezan a oírse rumores de Nobel de Física para los miembros de LIGO, liderado por los institutos tecnológicos de California y Massachusetts (Caltech y MIT) y cuyo director ejecutivo es David Reitze.
